Collaborative Workshop Series

Problem Based Learning and Mindfulness Workshops ©

Langford Educational Consulting® and the Kaivalya Centre® are collaborating to offer professional daylong seminar workshops using a highly innovative and collaborative teaching and learning process called PBL (Problem Based Learning) and Mindfulness. Workshop participants are introduced to the use of PBL methodology as a professional learning tool. Acting as meta-cognitive coaches our educators provide a structured group facilitation process. Some of the subjects introduced will help the participant to :

1. Learn basic Mindfulness techniques that will provide them with the perspective required for better decision making.

2. Explore the Mindfulness program, which contains the best Stress Management tools available today. Participants will also learn easy and proven Mindfulness techniques.

3. Engage in problem solving through a process of critical inquiry, questioning and meaningful learning;
4. Generate possible solutions to real-world problem scenarios and analyze the problem solutions for their professional relevancy and meaning;

5. Discover learning that is relevant to them; learning that emphasizes meaning rather then fact accumulation; learning that develops interpersonal and collaborative communication, conflict resolution and life long learning skills.

6. And much more, tailored to the individuals or groups needs.

Creating a mind-frame for well being

Making it Real - Modern and Ancient Techniques

Breaking the barriers of our negative thought patterns is the ancient way to inner harmony, and is what research-based science has proven effective to improve health. Metta Massage and Yoga Clinic integrates the modern with the ancient - Problem Based Learning (PBL) Therapeutic Discussion Groups, Mindfulness and Recovery Yoga.

The Recovery Yoga Program is suitable for any level of practitioner from absolute beginners to advanced students. Typically, people coming to Recovery Yoga have found themselves in a situation where regular yoga classes are inappropriate due to injury or illness, both chronic and acute. It is understood that when your body is experiencing pain for any reason, it remains in a state of ever present reminding that your former comfort and freedom of movement is compromised or no longer exists. Recovery Yoga is designed not only to give your body a jump-start toward wellness, but to take your mind off the discomfort of your body, quiet your mind and offer you some relief. Some people will take Recovery Yoga classes for just a few sessions to learn principles they can apply in any yoga class and avoid getting hurt. Other people will want to take advantage of the intimate setting at Metta's Yoga Studio and continue the specialized classes.

Therapeutic Discussion Groups usint the post-modern educational technique of PBL (Problem Based Learning) are also offered at Metta. PBL has been researched and documented for years, and is now a well integrated teaching and learning process at universities throughout North America. PBL is a structured discussion series that encourages participants to identify with confidence what they know and what they don't know, giving them the skills they need to acquire more information, and effectively analize it for relevant meaning. Students get very excited about the empowerment and freedom they feel in this non-judgmental learning approach that truly breaks down barriers, allowing them to learn more and faster.

PBL is beneficial in other learning environments as well, such as to the recipients of health care. Learning support has been shown to enable people to cope more effectively in transitional and stressful times. In PBL health discussions, clients can explore the aspects of their world that are challenging, motivating themselves to become more assertive with their own health needs.

Recovery yoga classes and PBL sessions are offered in either private or group appointments. In conjunction with these two programs, Metta will also be offering a new program in the fall called "Stress Management Through Mindfulness" with Lynne Cardinal.
